Broken Hill to Terowie South Australia

Tuesday 24th, January

We left Silverton this morning after Mal had the pleasure of actually showering in the rain. He took his soap and enjoyed washing under one of their rare rain storms. We visited Pro Hart’s Gallery in Broken Hill. What a great artist he was. We then drove from Broken Hill to a small “Ghost Town” called Terowie in South Australia.

In the early 1900’s it was a busy town as it was on the main train line. This train line closed in 1960, and the many incredible buildings shut up, as happened right throughout Australia, including Wilcannia as earlier mentioned. These buildings still stand in memory of these times. The only people we have met are a young Lebanese couple running the fuel stop. Tonight we are camped next to the old train station with the buildings still standing.

It is now evening, 9pm and still very light, and we have no water. We have run dry….thanks Mal….no cup of tea, no shower, no toilet (lucky we have a shovel), no clean the teeth (I will use his beer for that…??????). Lucky we have plenty of bottled water, but really???

Terowie SA...we camped next to these deserted railway buildings.

Inside one of the railway buildings...it reminded us of the trees at Brundah.

  1. You ran out of water???????? Don’t do that on the Nullabor.

So funny, I was talking about you two this morning to someone at work. I said I thought you would be on your way by now. We have been viewing the lovely photos and wishing we were there. Take care.

  2. You ran out of water…. so what, as long as you don’t run out of beer or wine, and petrol for that matter cause if you don’t have petrol, how are you going to get more beer and wine.
Honestly Ros, harden up and get your priorities right:)

  3. Was that photo of a “morning surf” at Bendalong of Mal trying to stand up before the wave closed out?

Thanks for sharing your trips, some of the places bring back lots of memories i.e.. Maggie Beer and her restaurant, the Pheasant Farm, Granite Island and the penguins, Silverton and The Hill, South Coast NSW (where Jan & I will be on 13th Feb), the canoe tree, etc.

How come you didn’t put the boat on the back of the bikes on the back of your “baby van”?

Hope you stop off at Cactus for a surg and take your camera with you, I believe the great whites love that part of the bight this time of year.

    Safe Travel

    1. Hi Dave,
There will be less blood surfing with the Great Whites than surfing with you, as I still have the scars that you inflicted on me.
      Hi to Jan,
      Mal (and Ros)

    1. By the end of February and then will be staying in WA for 3 weeks after the wedding before we fly home on the 25th. May visit the Margaret River for a few days during this time.
