Pont du Gard

Built 50 AD… yes very old. This UNESCO World Heritage monument, an ancient Roman aqua duct, crosses the River Gardon near the town of Vers Pont du Gard in southern France. It is the highest of all elevated Roman aqua ducts and I have to say, I am pleased we did not have to cross it in our canal boat last week !!!

  1. Wow, lucky you with the ancient olives. Love the aqueducts. How do get around once you dock? Do you hire a car, go on tours or just bus it and walk? Some amazing countryside. And to think that all of these structures are still standing nearly 2000 years later. The builders of today could learn a thing or two from the Romans. No room for error there. X N

    1. Yes, amazing buildings and structures. The olive trees were so wonderful to see. When we were on the boat we actually walked everywhere when we went ashore. We are off the boat now though and have a car. Xxxx
