Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop Restaurant….Barossa Valley

We have spent a lovely couple of days in the Barossa Valley. We leave tomorrow to travel via Hahndorf, to McLaren Vale.

Yesterday we explored the Barossa, finishing up at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop Restaurant. A good way to end the day. Eating and stocking the larder with delicious food.

Today we explored again, visiting Tanunda Winery then ending up joining a group of people at the “Australia Day Whistler Wines Celebrations”. This included wine (!!!) , Aussie Lamb Burgers, Tug a War (bad when the rope broke on the first go….lucky they had a spare), Sack Races, water balloon games, the Barossa Thong Throwing Competion, horse carriage rides with two of the most beautifully looked after and behaved horses I have ever seen, (and I’ve seen a few) and a good band playing. Fun for all ages. We were proud to be Aussies amongst such a friendly group.

Fiasco Italian Restaurant Coffs Jetty…….Last day of our trip

Friday 9th…..

Our last day has arrived.

We are off home tomorrow.

The sun is out, it is a beautiful day, so I am sure we will enjoy it.

Last night we walked down to the Jetty for dinner, but the Mexican we had planned, looked really suss ! It is owned by the Vietnamese restaurant next door. Even the chef is Vietnamese. The food and the menu were a really strange form of Mexican.

Now, you all know that the best neighbours we have ever had are Towe and Zen, and we love them dearly, and they are great cooks, but not as Mexican cooks.

So we decided to walk down to a restaurant we have tried before. The award winning Italian Restaurant Fiasco. A real treat. We enjoyed two unusual pasta dishes…..Gnocchi Con Salsicca (house made gnocchi with a pork ragout and ricotta) and Ravioli di Ricotta e Limone (house made ravioli filled with ricotta and lemon in a creamy saffron sauce).

They were delicious. The chef is from the Lake Como district of Italy. The food is influenced by the Lombardia Region of Northern Italy.

I could not help but add a little bit of one of my favourite spots, Italy, to the blog !!!!

Well, we have decided to stay in Coffs for the remainder of our holiday.

Good restaurants

Good beaches

Good surf …hopefully

Good shops

Good people

Good campsite

Good shelter from the rain !!!

Todays lunch was at Latitude 30, down on the jetty, overlooking the water and Solitary Islands, and the rain, but a good spot to enjoy the rain.

I enjoyed a delicious Yellow Thai Seafood Curry….heaps of fresh seafood.

Mal had a well cooked Whole Snapper.

All good.

Cupitt’s Winery : The Vineyard Kitchen

Cupitt’s Winery is a standout rural experience 5 minutes from Ulladulla, Milton and Mollymook. We enjoyed the absolute views to the Budawang ranges and Burrill Lake while tasting some of their boutique wines partnered with seasonal flavours from the provincial restaurant. Cupitt’s Restaurant is owned and run by an italian family that are a big part of the “Slow Food Movement”.

Mal enjoyed a tasty meal of lamb with spring vegetables, while I absolutely loved my Black Pudding with Crispy Pigs Ear and vegies with a lamb’s tongue on the side  (off Mal’s plate…he is a chicken !!)

Last night we ended up being joined by new neighbours, Liz and Phil, from Long Jetty on the Central Coast. As it is Phil’s birthday today we will be getting together again for “Happy Hour” tonight. Love the traditional “Happy Hour” with the caravaning fraternity.

Malibu Mex

Tonight we went to a great restaurant in Bodalla, about 10 minutes from Narooma called Malibu Mex. It is a well known mexican restaurant and surf museum. As the brocure said, “Amazing food – Amazing decor”. Yes !!!!! .My Seafood Burrito was delicious and Mal loved his Quesadilla too. Could not eat another thing !!!!

Nick, John,Bec and Steve would love it for all the surfing “stuff”.

Rick Stein’s Restaurant “Bannisters”

Wednesday 16th…..

We had an excellent meal at Rick Stein’s restaurant “Bannisters” in Mollymook, near Ulladulla. It is a seafood restaurant so Mal enjoyed scollops for entree and snapper and prawns for main.

I had a delicious Seafood Bisque for entree and a mixed seafood gratin for main. As it was a bisque it was completely different to your Seafood Chowder John. For those that don’t know, I am a huge fan of John from Wicked Restaurant’s seafood chowder!!! Delicious.

They brought out a scrummy chocolate fondant with coffee ice cream to share with our coffees and also tiny chocolate fudge pieces.. Yum!!!  We will have to do lots of walking!!!!

The restaurant overlooks the ocean. I took a photo of a mother and baby whale in the water right near the restaurant. Not a real good photo…sorry about that.

Kathy wanted me to take photos of the restaurant...so this is inside Kathy. Beautiful white linen, lots of art and a really fresh feeling. Excellent service.

I loved the lights. They are actually unopened soft drink bottles.
Photo of the two whales taken from the restaurant. It was better in real life. The photo does not do it justice.
